Pros:

The main HEPA filter material is treated with Microban to help inhibit the growth of bacteria that become trapped in the filter.

Cons:

Though the Bionaire air purifier is effective at removing particles, it's not really effective on microbes (germs, certain spores and bacteria).

Maintenance:

There are 2 filters in the unit.

A carbon pre-filter traps odors and large particles that helps prolong the life of the main (HEPA) filter.

The HEPA filter does the work of trapping the smaller,damaging particles.

Recommendation for changing the pre-filter is 4 times per year.

A year supply of these replacements is around $10.
