Why Clean Air Ducts?



In a previous article about clean air ducts, we asked the question "Is duct cleaning really necessary?"

The conclusion was that cleaning air ducts is a pretty good idea because it's very easy for dust and contaminants to adhere to the inside surfaces of the air duct system.

These deposits can become a good home to mold and dust mites under the right conditions.

A homeowner recently called us to do some work on his heating system.

Two years earlier, he had the air ducts cleaned by an air duct cleaning company, who did a thorough job.

Part of our scope of work was opening the duct system.

The curious homeowner, with flashlight in hand decided to inspect the inside of the air duct.

To his surprise, he found 6 dead mice as well as mice feces and dust and dirt build up.

Not a pretty sight!

Good duct design and good installation practices could have possibly prevented this.

But, the sad fact is, at least 1/2 of the installed duct systems are not properly designed or installed.

If you have asthma or allergy problems , this is one more reason why you should clean air ducts by a competent duct cleaning company.
